Upgraded and Kept my Unlimited Plan

If you have any other line eligible for upgrade, you can keep your unlimted, as stated above. Doesn't even need to be a smartphone line since you can upgrade a dumb phone then cancel the data.

1. Upgrade other line
2. Activate
3. Move new phone to your line. Put some other phone on other line.
4. (optional) Cancel data plan on other line if its a dumb phone

I'm eligible for an upgrade and would definitely like to try this...my gf and I each have a line. Mine is unlimited and hers is a 4GB Tiered line, for the Rezound that I got her last year for Christmas. My only question is, by transferring the upgrade to her line, and then using it, does that mean that she would lose her upgrade next year? Thanks.

Yes, her eligible upgrade would change to two years from this phone purchase. But there is the upgrade on your line that you can transfer to her line when the time comes.

Thanks for the reply. I'm confused now though...forgive my stupidity. So...transferring the upgrade I have now to her line so I could buy my new phone and keep unlimited data would reset her eligible upgrade back to 2 years, as you said. That makes sense. But why would I have still have another upgrade on my line if I just transferred it and bought a new phone. Wouldn't we then be both reset to 2 years? As I said, forgive my stupidity and explain a little more for me. Thanks in advance!

I agree, it's confusing. Basically, when you transfer your upgrade to her line, you are trading upgrade eligibility dates. She gets your upgrade, and your line now gets what her upgrade date was.
*So if your current upgrade is Nov 2012 and hers is March 2013... you switch your upgrade of Nov 2012 to her line, which means your line assumes her upgrade date of March 2013
*you buy phone on her line now, which makes her new upgrade date Nov 2014. Yours is March 2013.
*In March, you switch your upgrade to her line so she can buy phone. After she buys new phone, her new upgrade date is March 2015. Yours is now Nov 2014.

yes if you swap the dates and get a new phone now your next opportunity for an upgrade would be in a year. (this working on the assumption you bought her phone late in 2011)

Thank you so much guys for the explanation. I really appreciate it. That's awesome. Have upgrades always worked like that (i.e. you can switch them with other lines)? I would never know since I always had a plan only for myself and was never on a family plan with my family or anything like that. I was always under the assumption (don't know why) that if you switched it to another line, then you would in effect reset everything for both phones.

If this really works, I can't believe Verizon hasn't figured out this "loop hole" for getting around the unlimited data yet and shut it down some how. Then again most customers wouldn't know that they can do that (heck maybe most employees either) and just take what the Verizon rep says as gospel, which is what I thought until I stumbled upon this thread looking for user reviews on the MAXX HD.

So, what's the best way to go about this? Online, in store, a combination of the two? Will they let me do that in the store or tell me it's cheating and I can't? Do I need to bring my GF with me?

When the phone gets activated on the other line, how long does it take to switch it back? Is there any kind of waiting period before you can switch it over?

I'm sure Verizon would love to change that loop hole but just have not figured out how to yet.

Best way to go about it is through Verizon, Costco or best buy (because they don't have these switching phones off the line penalty fees like Amazon and wirefly do).

They will let you do it at the store. Not all reps are aware of the ability to do so, so you may have to explain it to the rep. It was straight from Verizon that I learned of this capability so it's not a secret and it is acceptable.

You may need your gf only because you will need to activate the new phone on her line first...but the activation can be done at home also.

There really isn't a waiting period. Once her line has been activated with the new phone, you should be able to switch it to your line. You may want to check your account online first just to make sure her line's contract has been updated before switching it.
