Razr M Camera sending portrait pics sideways...Help!

    Razr M issue?

This is odd and Motorola Tech support has no idea...

For some reason photos taken in portrait end up in landscape and upside down (sideways) to recipient when sent via MMS. I have sent test pics to myself and three other phones, HTC, Bionic and S3 they all receive them in landscape. this didn't happen with my old T-bolt! Portrait photo's were sent and received as portrait.

It seems to do it randomly and not in HDR mode, only in single shot mode. Also, when I go to send that picture via mms, the phone will "sometimes" prompt me to re-size the photo.

Motorola could not not confirm if this is an issue as they have nothing noted. They didn't have a phone with service to test. They want me to do a full restore which I did and the problem still exist's.

I want to make sure this issue is just confined to my phone before I go down the replacement road. I'm still with-in my 14 day Verizon return time and if this is an issue for all M's, it's a deal breaker...

Can someone text an mms picture to themselves taken portrait, single shot mode and HDR mode and see if they receive it in portrait? That would be very beneficial for both myself and Motorola...

    Thanks!

Unfortunately I know this problem all too well. Sorry to say but it's not isolated to your phone alone.. my M does it as well as both my X's. The portrait to landscape that is. It's something to do with the "EXIF" data I believe. On my X I was able to correct the issue through Photoshop (default edit app does nothing, or on the X I didn't).

Open the photo in Photoshop>rotate 90>save. Open sideways photo>rotate back to correct position>save. Now the photo 'knows' which way is up. I'll test with default edit app and report back in a few..

As for the resizing, I believe ?moto, android, verizon? has a built in limit on mms attachment size. My phones as far back as my G1 insisted on resizing my attachments if they were beyond a certian size(2mb?) Emailing solves this.. but what a pain. It's my data dangit! Let me use it.. lol

    ...stupid phone. Lol.

Reporting back. OK, simply rotating the pic in gallery does nothing BUT, opening up the photo editor through the menu options and rotating to landscape>save>then back to portrait>save seems to correct the 'send photos turn sideways' problem. A hokey fix at best... I don't recall if third party camera apps suffer from the same shortcoming.

This may or may not be easier but the QuickPic app allows you to quickly edit, rotate, then save, then send within the app and I just tested it. It does send the pic in portrait.

Thanks guys. I was on the phone with a Verizon tech this morning and he was able to replicate the issue. I was hoping it was just my phone but looks like this is normal for Motorola...

That is a deal breaker for me. I returned the M and picked up the Incredible 4G. Interestingly, the screen is actually larger on the Incredible since the buttons are not part of the screen. Another interesting thing, the Incredible is snappy quick, quicker in auto-rotate, switching between apps and home screens. You wouldn't think so looking at the specs... but it is. Camera is WORLDS better on the Inc4, works as it should, super fast shutter and picture quality is much improved. None of the grain and noise you get with the M. The display is also more detailed with the Inc4. The qHD on the M is pixelated like crazy and whites appear yellow.

I have to say, really disappointed with the Motorola. While battery life was awesome, everything else seems like a step down.

I love my M and am surprised the display is actually better than my Razr Maxx. Besides the rotated pic issue (which is a lame oversight on Motorola's part but an easy enough work around), it is possible you got a defective phone.

You will love the dinc2 though. I loved my original dinc. My son has the rezound which is similar and an excellent phone. The camera and picture quality on htc is one of the best, imo. Have fun with it.

I had the first 2 DINC's (both 3G)over a year each and loved em both...and I can say with full certainty the M is 2 steps up in every detail (with the exception of the camera, simply haven't taken enough pics yet for a verdict at this time). I'm sure I woulda loved the DINC3 (4G) but just wanted to try somethin different, and am glad I did...sorry about your experience with the M

Slightly dingy or over saturated colors are normal to some extent on samoled screens... all 4 of the maxx's on my account look similar... turn up the brightness... other than that.. you'll get used to it..

Yeah on some phones, they have. Mine is fine too. Don't know if I would've been happy if it wasn't.
