Developer's Edition, unlocked bootloader, no warranty...

Another member, StephenC linked to the Motorola site showing that a version of the M was being released for sale with an unlocked bootloader, so I looked and sure enough...one for the HD too! Also apparently the new "unlock tool" works for both...

"Unlocking your device and installing your own software might cause the device to stop working, disable important features and functionality, AND EVEN MAKE THE DEVICE UNSAFE TO THE POINT OF CAUSING YOU HARM."

Sounds like they are trying to deter as many people as they can from doing this. Haha

I think they mean it could cause stability issues and perhaps the device won't work when you really NEED it to (for example, a situation where you NEED to call 911 and the device decides to reboot instead). It's a "CYA" type statement.

Dave, don't get me wrong...I respect you and agree completely with what you are saying. You are historically a voice of reason. I just love those CYA statements at times because they are worded incorrectly IMHO.

Putting it into the context of unlocking and/or installing your own software which can cause it to not be able to dial 911...that can lead to you suffering undue "harm", but the phone itself would not likely cause you "harm". Likewise for calling the phone "unsafe", again is it really an "unsafe" phone if certain features are disabled, or is it a phone that will not operate in an emergency when you need it making you "unsafe" (or less safe), in a situation?

What did we do before we all had instant communication in our pockets? Were we less "safe" because we didn't have instant access to communication in an emergency, or more "safe" because we weren't carrying a phone with a battery that could potentially explode, or because we weren't placing a microwave radiator within centimeters of our brains, or because we wouldn't be texting and driving or walking, etc.?

    Just saying...

Of course we are less safe. More cell phones equals less pay phones. Less payphones equals less pay phone booths. This inherently equals less places for Clark Kent to get out of the reporter garb and into the Superman diggs. You mean you hadn't noticed he's not around as much lately? Geeeezzz, do the math people!
