Why root, rom or theme, no problems just WHY

I have been a member since 2010. This site helped me root my Droid Milestone in the summer of 2010. Got some good roms from here. But the phone got screwed up later, to the point that I could not even factory reset. Fortintly it was stolen when my upgrade was available. The phone was shut off within 5 mins of the thief. So all they got was a paper weight. Good news Razr just came out, so i jump at it. Of course I wanted to root to be like everyone else, then the update came out and I was suck. Could not do anything to get it to work. So I forgot about it until ICS. Got to have it, saw the utility 1.6, so I tried it. Stupid me started on a 30% battery, go though the wipping of the phone then stoped. Tried everthing except opening her up and building a cable. So off to Verizon I went, played stupid. They asked if I tried to do the update with low battery, I said don't know, maybe. With insurance and their help, New Razr. Now to the question, WHY ROOT, ROM AND THEME? (Sorry so long, just thought we could talk Philosophy and taste, instead of everyones problems that they are having. Thanks by the way for those of you that do help us nontech people.)

I primarily root for a couple of functions that are not standard on Moto devices - screenshots (this has been resolved with ICS) and the ability to change the system font.

Once rooted, I then find all kinds of cool things to do in the way of themes and ROMs - so for me, it is just a loosing battle.

The longest I have gone without rooting a device was my gNex and that was almost 2 weeks (although it did not have the ability to change system fonts but most Samsung devices do)...

I'm not rooted (Froyo-GB phone; 2 years). But I did root my tablet (ICS).

My phone is my primary communication device; it's functional, and I can't afford it to get any worse than the current vzw-motoblur system. Lol.

My phone also connects to work. Some corporate sysadmins consider a rooted/jailbroken device to be a security-compromised device, and will not allow it to connect to their resources.

The only reason why I needed root was because OG Droid had an unlocked bootloader. I tried to prevent quick spending by prolonging my phone to its limit. Sadly, my OG droid was dead due to a spilled coffee... I OC'd that thing from 600 mhz to 1.1ghz (thanks to peteralfonso). From then I went further into modding. In order to keep OC, I had to refrain from any OTA updates. OTA updates at that time was so petulant! It kept on bothering me to update and at times it could do auto update on itself. I learned from others that in order to stop this annoying update, I must install 3rd party ROM. I chose Bugless ROM and all was golden! I got Bionic after I ruined my OG. I don't really need rooting any longer... my experience of first android OS completely changed. Don't know why tho.... I still am hooked just with less purpose (for now)

One of the big perks to rooting is gaining wireless tether ability, but FoxFi now covers that without root.

Widgetlocker can take advantage of root to function more seamlessly with the OS.

Lots of things... Titanium Backup is very handy, and that needs root. ES File explorer becomes more useful with root. Lots of things.

AdFree is a great ad killing app that needs root access to modify a HOSTS file. I have a couple "free version" apps that are normally littered with ads but hmmmm, not anymore!

What else? Well, you can remove unwanted stock ringtones and notifications (although you should always back up any changes you make to system folders)

Much more... these are just examples of some things I do. But do you NEED root? Not at all. Just something to geek out with.
