Safestrap vs Bootstrap

1st of all let me apologize early if the answers to my questions are sitting right in my face, i went a few pages deep and couldn't find anything really.

Just curious about whats the real differences/benefits are to setting up safestrap over bootstrap and vice versa. From what i saw it seems if you plan on installing ROMs i'd want to go with safestrap instead. i'm coming from a droid X and i was heavy on the modding, but with no sbf out i don't want to take too many chances installing things i dont have to. If someone could just clear this up for me, it'd be greatly appreciated!!

Safestrap allows you to essentially dual-boot, where you retain one boot ROM as a fall-back. There have been some problems with it and some ROMs won't work, or it may be related to the installation process of those ROMs. Bootstrap will also allow you to change out the ROM but there is no failsafe.

There is also no SBF for the Razr, but there is Fastboot which is essentially performing the same function. There's a great utility for rooting and Fastbooting called Droid Razr Utility, and you'll find links to it in a sticky on the Droid Razr Hacks section (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=198379). It simplifies most processes to a one-push.

I agree with everything FoxKat has said. One word of caution, do not have safestrap and bootstrap on your phone at the same time...have one or the other installed, not both. Many users have reported problems flashing ROMs when both safestrap and bootstrap exist on the phone at the same time.

Can someone go into more detail on the dual boot option? I think I may have accidentally ran into it when I was messing with safestrap. I turned safe mode off and it reverted back to the stock rom. Thought I had loat everything... But then turned it back on and my Eclipse was up and running again. Is this the on/off button per-say? Sorry,but I'm new to this also and just want to know as much as possible. Also, it being dual booted... will this effect battery life at all bcuz it really doesnt seem that I have an "all day battery" like some claim. More like 1/2 to 3/4 day....

Yes in Safestrap you only run ROMs in safe mode. It makes a backup when you switch. Its not really dual booted, its just two different boot options.

Dude it goes like this- u know how sometimes u need to boot into safe mode sometimes for various reasons cause it keeps u from damaging your normal, non-safe mode?? Well with safestrap, you can basically go into safe mode, wipe its data/cache and everything and flash a rom like normal but it is doing it to the safe mode side of ur phone. So now u can switch back to non-safe mode and your original stock or previously rommed system is still there unharmed. Also then if u switch back into safe mode then there's ur new rom that u flashed in safe mode. It basically utilizes safe mode as like having two phones. Safe and non-safe. U can flash rims in either one. On my bionic in non-safe mode I have my stock bionic like it was b4 I rooted. If I boot into safe mode then there is my rom, eclipse. Each one has their own apps and settings that they retain . My stock is always safe and I never have to worry about messing it up or restoring my apps. All my experimental stuff is done in safe mode. These two different ways to boot up, whether in safe or non-safe mode.... this is referred to as dual-boot for obvious reasons. Its like a laptop that can dual boot either linux or windows. I hope this helps

Switching between the dual boots and flashing roms and overall just messing with ur phone will drain ur battery alot faster than just a normal day of use, yes. But when ur on one of the modes, its not going to use up extra battery because ur only running one at a time. The other one is just saved as a backup. The option is near the bottom- its one of the option that allows u to enable/ disable safe mode. There's an option to do it quickly but the reason itnis dangerous is because it does not make a new backup.. so if u changed anything since the last backup it will be gone. If ur a beginner its best to not use the dangerous one yet. Just let it make a backup every time

But you still answered a couple of vague points they covered. Thanks again for the info. Now on to actually messing with the stock version... since I realize now that its still sitting there untouched. Nothing major though. Just some updates and app installs.

When I was first trying to learn about safe strap I couldn't find anywhere where someone just flat out explained what it did in normal terms. it isn't complicated but people choose to explain it in a way that sounds complicated instead of just simply explaining it so that's what I tried to do.glad it could help.
