This is a discussion on why 2.2 upgrade? within the Droid Polls forums, part of the Droid News category; Everything You Need To Know About Android 2.2 | Android News, Reviews, Applications, Games, Phones, Devices, Tips, Hacks, Videos, Podcasts - Android Police sorry guys ...
My old Droid was better
The update should have been optional
This is a great update
Hey vanish, I see that you use advanced task killer. I had that, deleted it today actually. I found on our forums here that those don't do squat and if anything, go against your OS. Android drains the same amount of battery whether it has 30m free or 120m free. Also you said you have a lot of applications that you can't use. Since these are going against your system trying to be used even though they can't be that might slow your system down and cause a bigger battery drain. I'd suggest deleting some of them until they are updated and compatible with 2.2. If none of that works then I hope that the 2nd froyo update fixes everything up so that your Android is running crystal clean like it should be.![]()
I like the updates for the most part, the voice search for the car nav and some the new formats are better, BUT my photo gallery is GONE, pics are still on SD Card you just can't seem them! And the phone is running VERY slow now, so its just whole new set problems
Well I see he is banned now....that was fast....LOL!!
Like any OS update for any OS: desktop/laptop, mobile....there are bound to be issues, problems. The thing is, Froyo for the majority of ppl that installed it....its been great.
Froyo breathed new life in my Droid. So much so that I will still be using it, even tho its not activated anymore.

Yeah the update to Froyo was definitely one of (if not the) most feature-rich updates to the Droid so far, with Flash capability, Apps2SD, Tethering (even tho verizon dorked it up with charges), better performance, etc. I've seen many articles repeatedly reporting that it puts up by far the best benchmark numbers of for android (at least over 2.1 eclair anyway). So yeah, on paper it's really good.
However, like someone said earlier, with new OS's and upgrades, there's bound to be initial problems and quirks about it. Give it some time and they should be hammered out. There's solutions to everything, you just gotta take the time to seek them out. i.e. I learned something new in this thread regarding ATK. I'll go delete it now, lol.
So with ATK, do you guys advise just not having a task killer, or having a better one than ATK? If so, which one should I use?
I'm loving me some 2.2, especially chrome to phone and apps2sd some of the games I like to play are pretty big files
I got the 2.2 update last week (on my birthday) on my Droid. It doesn't seem like as big an upgrade as 2.1 that added pinch zoom and live wallpaper, but I think it added some good features.OK, I guess tethering doesn't work, although the feature is on the Droid. That's Verizon's fault. Also, I don't think I have Flash yet. I'm waiting for the next update.
- 5 home screens instead of 3
- The ability to jump directly to a home screen
- Big improvements on the camera, much easier to operate.
- I am very happy with the way the media dock works now. It used to be so bright, it was like having a light on in the bedroom, even with brightness set to zero and the screen set to night mode. Now the dimming actually works. I've seen complaints about the screen saver aspect of it, but I like it. If I want to see the temperature, I just touch the home icon.
- The ability to auto update apps is nice. I only use it for apps I trust.
- I'm not sure I could set Advanced Task Killer to auto kill before 2.2, but that is a recent improvement.
Haven't used bluetooth calling feature, but that is an improvement.
I don't see much to complain about here.![]()
