Reverting back to stock, right about.....Now. lol
There is some misinformation running around about this and people jumping to conclusion that this is Motorola locking down the system. This is wrong. Read what Motorola posts and you will see that they are actually letting you know ahead of time about the issue and telling you that flashing back to a prior release will allow you to upgrade.

Im glad i already flashed back lol.

Here is Linux on your PC without changing your hard drive contents:
Knoppix Linux Boot CD, Download Disk and Documents, Discuss, Get Help
Now you can use the sbf_flash no matter your OS.
I'll keep my 2.2 until this weekend. I'd bet half a goat (if only i could find my knife...) the official 2.2 is coming out around Sept. 6. You should still be able to flash back to 2.1 after that and manually check for update from settings.

If you go back to 2.1, you lose everything, right? Is there any chance there will be a way to upgrade to the official 2.2 without having to to a factory reset?
This is really pretty sad considering that, since loading 2.2, I've gotten fewer FCs, almost 2 day battery life, and effectively, pure DroidX happiness.
Personally, I'm not flashing back to stock until I *have* to...or are they saying they're going to track who loaded 2.2 and then deny the upgrade even if it's been flashed back to stock?
/\ /\ /\ same here... I have no issues, and unless they include something in the official update that I desperately need, I won't go back to 2.1 to then update again to 2.2 since I have 0 issues with it.
If I understand this correctly, I would lose everything by going back to 2.1, correct?
Also, can't we update manually from 2.2 leak to 2.2 official if someone uploads the official file?
The next sentence is true. The previous sentence is false.
That would depend. I don't think you can use update.zip to reload a same version OS, so I'm guess Motorola was saying that your phone won't see official 2.2 as a valid "update" to leaked 2.2.
This implies that that you won't be able to update from leak 2.2 to official 2.2 without a full flash... meaning you'd lose everything, unfortunately.![]()
