Funny how most people jump off the band wagon when trouble starts! That just shows whos loyal and whos not! Stolen or not ? But funny how all this started after we quit using rom manager and how many UD roms have been put out? Com'n people find your backbone and quit jumping on and off bandwagons and take a stand for what you beleive in. 50 pages of bashing BD for UD10 but everyone was kissing his a** when they had a problem or question when they messed something up........Funny how you didn't see any of these people bashing when he released a ROM and was all about how they can't wait and what time are you releasing....Everyone loves whatever ROM they are using and that should be the way it is support your favorite but when you can avoid 50 pages of this BS with people jumping on bandwagons and trying to be with the right crowd on bashing someone....I chooser my own incrowd I make my own decisions and choose what I want as far as my opinion on this matter, just like a bunch of school kids standing in a circle on the playground egging people on to fight!! Whatever get over it I will continue to use BD roms so flame on people...

You are correct

So once I actually
compile cyanogen's source code into a rom it is my own?
No...
Google releases the source code and says "Take this.. Run with it.. Make it your own.."
At this point, everyone starts on the same level playing field.
You take it, add your own code, take out some of theirs and make it "your" variation on the base of the original source code..
Allegedly, Cyanogen made his mods to the code and compiled it.
BlackDroid then took what Cyanogen created and made it his.
You can't think of it as a chain of "well if BD took what Cyan did... Cyan just took what Google did". Up until the point that Cyanogen got it in the above example, it was open source code that anyone could use.
I'm not arguing one way or another, just trying to explain how it works.

I disagree. What this thread needs is some more flaming, followed by more people arguing from completely entrenched positions and oblivious to whatever anyone else is saying.

Yes your right again

So if I compile the code without any changes, it would be mine. How would that effect the MD5 calculations?

Guys were not interfering with this thread as much as we possibly can. Just watch the language, please.

But if altered code is released as open source, how does the chain not continue? Is open source not really "open"?

This is true in my eyes.

the only one I see here know are the BD "lackeys" to quot an above poster. Stop with the threats of a supporting member leaving, DF failing, you'll see, let's leave and such. Do it if you're gonna do it. The community was here before and it's still here. You just don't like what's been done so now YOU are gonna make the community understand. Here's a newsflash for you: you are doing the same thing you accused CM of doing. In all of your own words, if you don't like it, then move elsewhere. The drama stirring at this point just makes all of you look like fanaticals. We all get what happened. We all have our own opinions. Posting threats of leaving and pulling support and talk of DF failing isn't going to win you any supporters. Stay or go but you look kinda silly wearing the same badge you accused someone else of wearing a day ago.
I have done nothing like what the cyanogen lackeys have done... I not once have visited their site with the intention to make disruptive comments. I am not even a registered user there. That is what they did to DroidForums...
Also, you don't see them here continuing in this conversation because they accomplished their mission. BlackDroid has been shut down on this forum. They have no more reason to come here. They are back at CM site.
I tried to encourage people to stop the fan-boy comments and the dev's to take their issues private see my thread here So now that Cyanogen and Koush got their way.. we that disagree are just supposed to be quite? I don't think so.
By Cyanogen's own admission he stated that BlackDroid's content was fine to use. It was that credit was not given. He wanted a "hey thanks man" Blackdroid did that.. his post was edited but that was not good enough for him. So all in all this was a EGO thing plain and simple.
We as a community have all lost due to this fiasco. I have made it known I do not agree with droidforums decision to shut down BD's section. And because of that I stated that I will be spending most of my time elsewhere. Not leaving for good. But I do want the DroidForums supporting member badge removed from my name. Because I do not support how DroidForums have handled this situation and do not want to advertise that I support this forum and its actions.
There was a better way for all of this to be handled and that was not to air it out publicly. All parties involved are at fault! Me, DroidForums Staff, BlackDroid, Koush, Cyanogen, and every other member that contributed to the flame war. So do you get it now!
I do not care if BD was written from cyanogen source, google source, or freaking gods source. I liked the way BD ran on my device... it was themed to my liking. It is the ROM of my choice to use that I can no longer come to this forum to get! So yes, I have to move to another place to get it. Get it! Got it! Good! I am done posting in this thread. I await blackdroids forum to go live so I can learn and get the information that I am interested in. Have a good day

OK. I have come to a final conclusion. (BASF)
I don't make the ROM "they" use. I make the ROM better.
(still the man BD)
Go ahead....flame me i don't care
