Installed it , played with it and went back to root and BB 0.9 so my Droid won't stay unrooted over night . Maybe I'll reinstall it tomorrow though I doubt , not impressed by it .

A rooter wouldn't be impressed. A stocker, on the other hand, this is a fantastic opportunity for them.

+2...yeah all the non-rooters that stayed up for this are going to be up all night poking at their screen

so i asked speeddymon how he got the user to catch the updatezip or whatever and this is his direct quote

I walked him through installing the SDK, including ADB, the USB Debugging driver, enabling USB Debugging, and running logcat. Then had him run logcat and hit the install button. It said it was going to install /cache/signed-voles-ese81-from-esd56.fa406da6.zip so I deduced that the filename would be the same on the android.clients.google.com site and that the location would be the same. It was.

So I downloaded the file and told him to pull the battery from his phone (which didn't work, it already has the file downloaded to /cache by the time you get the notification, so once you tell it to install, that's it, you are going to get 2.1 and no turning back).

It would have been easier if he had not taken his phone back to stock yesterday, I could have had him just give me the file name from /cache but since he took root off, he couldnt read /cache, so I had no choice. :-( Oh well, he said he was done with root anyways so he didn't mind.

I did it - Had to do a battery pull to get the keys to light up but it all works and is smooth and fast.

Wallpapers are great, zoom on browser is great, pictures and video gallery better - all around nice.

I was stupid and deleted a bunch of APK's without uninstalling the stuff but 2.1 seems to have over ridden thinks like the news and weather APK I had installed anyway. Same with the Gallery - I only have one now even though I didn't uninstall the other one.

    Guess I won't worry.

    Thanks guys!

Ok so I think I fount the proper zip. Now what? I can't find instruction laid out anywhere. Is it just like the 2.0.1, I did that just fine but can't recall all of the steps... Thanks so much to anyone that can help.

Just to recap after installing this:

-YES, pinch to zoom, where you expect it to be (mmm hmm, browser too)

-Weather and News widget installed by default

    -Text-to-speech on the keyboard

    -3d gallery is definitely there

-Live wallpapers (11 installed by default)

-Yahoo! Mail functionality, I can't find. I'm sure its there, someone can point me in the right direction.

    DOWNSIDE THUS FAR

Lagginess. Am I the only one experiencing this?? Let me know. Even scrolling the drawer, is laggier than 2.01. It might be related to the live wallpapers, I will let you know.

The live wallpapers are KILLER. I mean the resolution is spectacular and they are IMPRESSIVE. AND FAST! Guess our GPU has something going for it after all.

    No lag on mine.

I did go back to the home launcher and delete all the widgets.

    I'm using Helix.
