    From androidcentral:

It's officially bad news for that Motorola Droid Android 2.1 update, folks. BGR snagged a shot that looks like the same internals that we've been seeing. And this one's not welcome.

"The OTA software update for the DROID by Motorola is TBD. A new date will be communicated as soon as possible."

    and

"The 3/18 OTA software update will not happen as planned. A new data will be communicated as soon as possible."

Can't spell it out any worse than that. Sorry, folks. Feel free to vent your conspiracy theory in the comments. [via BGR]

Update: And this was just posted to Motorola's Facebook page. No, it doesn't help.

"Thanks for your continued patience. We aim to answer each and every question; if your post isn't answered immediately, please know that we're looking into your question so that we can provide the most up-to-date information as possible."

In other news, Android and Me says the delay has been attributed to the company that actually handles the over-the-air distribution. That sounds right to us, because Verizon has already pushed out the update to some of its employees, and they're reporting no problems with the ROM. Stay tuned.

I'm sorry, but I have to laugh.

I'm just reading all this stuff for fun, because I'm not really waiting with baited (or unbaited) breath for the update. When - or should I say if - it comes, then so be it. I'd rather have it late and working then now and something wrong.

It reminds me of a few years ago when a extremely well-known camera company rolled out a firmware upgrade for their high-end, stae-of-the-art DSLR. And guess what? There was a "tiny" bug that screwed up the cameras of everyone who performed the upgrade. Within hours the firmware upgrade was removed, and the old one reinstated. It was another month or so before the corrected firmware was available.

Again, I find this all funny. And, as Carl from Caddyshack says "I have to laugh!"

I was curious so I asked motorola about the update. (i edited to remove my name)

me: I know you guys been getting a lot of questions/ complaints about the latest software updates for the verizon Motorola droid. The problem is Google sends it, you guys tweak it, and you send it to verizon who sends it to a 3rd party company to send it out OTA. Is there a way to just put the update file on your site and allow those who may choose to, to just install it and follow the simple instructions. Apple has it for their Iphones I was wondering if you could do it for the droids.
Gabriela A: Let me check. One moment, please.
me: I use your syncing software for my music and photos, why not use that same syncing service to distribute the updates for the droid.
Gabriela A: I see. One more moment, please.
Gabriela A: We really appreciate your feedback. I will forward it to the proper department. The update was released today for a group of testers. As soon as the update is approved it will be distributed to end users.
me: thanks. You been helpful. I was suggesting that as a way to save time and money. I had the iphone and I could go to itunes to install my updates. I do not see why you could not do the same, granted I know the droid is on different international carriers, but If you had a link that saud "verizon motorola droid software update" I would no to click and install.
me: know to click and install, sorry.
Gabriela A: That is why, sir. We are testing the update at the moment. As I told you, I will forward this information to our engineering department. We remain at your entire disposal.
me: ok sorry miss the last part I understand that it is in the testing phase. And I am not ranting ...I seen the your facebook page. Trust me when I say that is not me just to complain. I just know you guys have been helpful and has done a good job listening to your consumers on ideas to help make this device as user friendly as possible. Your staff do a good job thank you.
Gabriela A: You're welcome. If you need any more information get in touch. Thanks from Motorola, bye!.
    me: thanks bye
    You have disconnected.

Thanks! Hopefully it will give them an idea that the public is actually liking the idea of an upgrade that they can do themselves and will make it available.

You gotta laugh at some of the people on the forums and blogs being livid at this, man it's just an update that adds a couple of new features.. most of which have been easily available (like the gallery).

Well if their rage is correct, the price of Droids is going to drop on eBay.. so if anyone is going to buy one now is the time! I might pick up a spare!

I'm guessing it has to do with the inferiority complex, lots just want to be on the same playing field as the Nexus One just to prove themselves it's capable.
