Sony Develops New Advanced RGBW Coding and HDR Movie Sensors for Mobile Cameras

Here are some impressive pics and video from Sony's newest press announcement. The global tech giant has developed new CMOS sensors for their phones that are even more advanced than their previous generation Exmor R technology. The first new tech is for improving pics. It is called "RGBW Coding" and it actually adds White to the traditional Red Green Blue sensor range. The new enhancement is designed to improve pictures in low-light conditions, and the results pretty much speak for themselves as you can see above. The second improvement they made is for better video. It's called "HDR Movie" (which stands for High Dynamic Range) and it basically does the reverse of the camera. It allows for improved video in extremely bright settings. The video below shows off the impressive results.

Unfortunately, based upon the dates of their planned product launches for this new tech, it is unlikely that the two newest phones coming from Sony early this year, the Xperia Ion and the Xperia S, will have these new sensors. However, it is possible that the next-gen rumored Xperia Arc could have it. Regardless, it looks like Sony is really upping the ante when it comes to mobile phone camera technology.
