The Web Has Spoken: Stop SOPA Day

Sometimes people underestimate the power of the place many of us call home --the web. Today the world wide web shouted to the American people about what's going on in Congress, and how it would affect all of us that reside in this country and even those that don't. Like we mentioned earlier today in another post, many sites participated in a blackout protest; blocking out part or all of their content in protest of the two bills that congress is working on. As a result of all the outcry Google got over 4.5 million people to sign the anti-SOPA petition, saying "There’s no need to make American social networks, blogs and search engines censor the Internet or undermine the existing laws that have enabled the Web to thrive, creating millions of U.S. jobs," "Too much is at stake -– please vote NO on PIPA and SOPA." There were other efforts to get the word out; sites like Avaaz.org reportedly got over 1.458 million people signed a similar petition.

The web has allowed many things to happen, lots of positive and some negative, but today it seems everyone is fighting for the same cause and the results are quite clear.

Over 12 members of congress reversed their decision to support SOPA, theoretically killing it. But you can still sign the petition at:

Signed up yesterday but what do I see on the TV last night? A commercial that foreign countries are stealing our ideas and killing US jobs. Please ask congress to support SOPA. I guess they couldn't really advertise on the internet huh?

I'm all for a free internet but you have to wonder, all these people suddenly coming out of the wordwork to support this issue...are they really supporting the cause, or just jumping on the bandwagon?
"Hey look at me, I blacked out my site too! www.trackyourWOWstats.com doesn't support SOPA/PIPA!"
