Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

im gonna feel really really dumb asking this but how do i boot into the OS on my moto droid?

That would depend on what you mean by OS. Since what OS means is Operating System you just let it boot up normally. If you mean recovery, hold X on the physical keyboard and power the phone up while still holding X until it appears, if you mean the bootloader you hold up on the D pad (towards the screen) until the bootloader appears.

so you were at stock 2.1-update1, and woke up this morning with an update that changed you to FRG22D? Was it a single large file?

Hmmm. If he only had to update once that would be an ESE81 to FRG22D file (or more likely just a "master OTA" FRG22D). It would be nice to have a copy of that file. My DEV Droid is on ESE81 right now -- guess I need to leave it on and see if it collects anything.

I managed to read through all 24 pages of this topic tonight and I had to register just to say thanks to the OP. I will doing this on my Droid when I get off work in an hour.

Edit: Unfortunately I can't seem to get past step 9... the 'start' button stays greyed out. I am running it as administrator and the phone does show in the grid below...

Edit again: I should mention I'm on Win7x64 Ultimate... I'm updating drivers to 4.6.5 now and will try again after I've gotten some sleep. Phone battery needs to charge a bit too... only at 25%.

Rebooted holding up key, D1 is plugged in w/ USB. Windows is searching for a driver SE Flash OMAP3430 MI. Was this supposed to be in RSD Lite? Where can I find it?

Common pitfall with ADB. The Android SDK is kinda weird (by Windows norms) in that you unzip it in whatever location you want to run it from and then just run it from there (as opposed to "installing it"). Lots of folks put it in c:\android which will then end up placing ADB in c:\android\tools. If you did (or do) yours this way, then you have a few choices for running ADB:

1. In the command prompt, do a cd c:\android\tools before trying to run ADB.
2. Instead of just running ADB, run c:\android\tools\ADB.
3. Add c:\android\tools to your system's PATH environment variable and then you can run ADB from anywhere easily (recommended).

There is a thorough ADB guide on this site somewhere. It has all sorts of goodies in it and is worth checking out.

On mine, the only time the Start button is grayed out is when I have not yet chosen the SBF file I want to flash. Be sure you didn't miss Step #8 of the detailed instructions.
