On a side note, your phone might just not be able to flash that certain kernel. I had a Droid that would not flash ChevyNo1's ROM or LFY. For whatever reason I was part of a select few that had that certain issue. Granted those were ROM's but the issue may be true about kernels.

One click roots are not good. You're almost guaranteed to have problems later on

Well, there's a new recovery out that seems to work great for most people.

If the cord came unplugged, though, you should reflash and hope nothing got screwed up in the whole system. Try that, then again.

Is your SD card mounted in USB Mass Storage mode while you're trying to flash? If so unmount it.

When you say flash do you mean in rsd lite installing the alternate recovery? I think that is what may have happened that the chord disonnected momentarily during the process...if so is there anything I can do like flash back to stock or anything like that? Whats weird is that sprecovery seems to have installed fine

I was mistaken about the bad kernel. When the cable came loose you screwed your actual system up. You'll want to flash back to out-of-the-box-stock. Unfortunately this will cost you your texts and whatnot.

Using RSD Lite (and being VERY careful not to let the cable get unplugged), flash this SBF.

The upside is you can now use z4root to root if all you want is root access. The downside is if you do that you'll still get nagged to update. The upside is you can then use the update.zip MotoCache1 provides to fix whatever recovery image you want (in your case Clockwork, or the new RZREcovery just released in the last 24-48 hours) in memory with a battery pull and update.zip install and then flash whatever ROM you want over it. I can provide instructions for any of the above.

I have a ROM he can flash that will completely unroot his phone so that he doesn't have to worry about messing anything up. If you want.

I'm just worried that SPR keeps giving errors like that with perfectly valid update.zip files. If the cable came unplugged during a flash he's lucky it doesn't just go to the bootloader and give an error about code being corrupt, so let's reset everything and start from there. Better safe than sorry, in this case.

Though if it were still giving the red light after a kernel flash that would have been my next step, so keep that ROM file handy!

I keep forgetting that his recovery is giving him problems haha. I don't know why I even mentioned something that would require him to flash(: Haha.

I tried using Z4root again after exams 2.2.1 OTA and it wouldn't work. Even tried the apk from Xda, and it was also a no-go. Eventually, I just followed Motocache's guideand manually rooted in about 10 minutes! I'm keeping the Z4root apk since I'm getting the Galaxy Tab for Christmas, and want to try to root it, but I'm going to manually root my phones from now on.
