Rooted: trying to put sound file in /system/.../ folder

I rooted my DInc last night (thanks to the guys at Unrevoked). Basically I want to put the droid.ogg file (think "DROOOOOIIIIID") in the system folder with all of the other notifications tones. I want to be able to set it to that noise on start-up.

I bought Root Explorer, but I know for the time being, I can't modify anything inside /system/ while the phone is on. Would I be able to drop the file in the notifications folder while in recovery mode? I'm not as familiar with android and mobile software as I am with regular computer stuff, but it won't be hard for me to pick up.

I've have tried to do this, but with my own ringtone, and I could never get it to work. Here is the thread I made, and no one ever came up with an answer.

From what I understand, we can still move stuff inside the /system/ folder while the phone is "off," but I just want to make sure I have the right idea. I just need to see how to place any file anywhere inside the /system/ folder. That would be enough for me to apply it to the Droid sound.

Let me clarify. Writing to the /system can only be done while in recovery.
Whille in recovery mount the system in the partitions link. Then move as you please.

can be done using adb also . in that case recovery mode is not required.
