Is the SD card partitioned?

I have installed a 16Gb SD card in my HTC DI. When I connect my DI to my Mac by USB two external disK icons show up on my desktop, each named "No Name".
One shows 14.83 Gb--13.14 free.
The contents of this "disk" are: a folder named Lost.Dir with no contents;
a folder named Kindle;
a folder named Android which contains a subfolder named data;
and a folder named Books and Songs which contains, obviously, books and songs.

The other "No Name" shows 6.46Gb--5.48 free.
The contents of this "disk" are a folder named Lost.Dir with no contents;
a folder named Android which contains a sub folder named data;
a folder named DCIM containing .jpeg photos;
a file named HTC_Sync_2.0.4.exe;
and 13 mp3 song titles.

I assume these are partitions of the SD card, or is the larger "disk" the actual SD card and the other the actual built in 8Gb memory of the DI?
My questions are:
Why are the Android folder and Lost.Dir folder in each of these partitions?
What is the Lost.Dir with no contents all about?
Can I rename these "disks"? What would be the appropriate names for these partitions? 1. SD card Memory 2. Phone Memory ?

Perhaps i posted in the wrong forum. Maybe my posting had 'info overload' (was too long) and readers got bored and they exited before they got to the question part. I know there has got to be lots of people here who know the answers.

What you did wrong is not having enough patience. Someone will answer your question- you didn't even give it a full day.

The 14.83GB disk is your SD card, the 6.46GB one is the internal phone storage.
It shouldn't cause any problems if you rename them.

The LOST.DIR is a Android folder where lost sectors/clusters are placed when they are found by the file system check (fsck) utility. It, hopefully, will never contain any files.

LOST.DIR is placed on the disk when it is formatted by the phone, and I think it is the same for Android/data.
