More newbie questions: clocks and speech

Sorry for the newbie questions but here I am again.

I have a clock & a desk clock... different visual presentations, with exactly the same functions. Is this right, or should I be able to delete one of them?

Re: speech to text function... how do I un-highlight text so I'm not constantly deleting everything I've just "written"? I've been adding a random period and then deleting it later, but there must be a more efficient way (right? right??)
