Using audio saved from a text message as a text alert?

    Hi all!

Not sure if this is where this post belongs if it's not please feel free to move it to where it belongs! Thanks!

My sister sent me a cute recording of my niece's laughter and I'd like to use it as my text alert. I've saved it, it went to the music area. How do I use it as a text alert?

    Thanks!

Just go to settings and change the alert notification to your saved file.

If that doesn't work try using a file explorer such as Astro to locate the file and set it from there.

It won't show up since it's in the wrong folder.

To get the file in the correct folder do the following...

    1. Connect your phone via USB cable to a computer
    2. select "Disk drive" on your phone
    3. go to my computer for PC or home for mac
    4. go into the sdcard
    5. open downloads folder and copy the sound file you want
    6. go back to the sdcard root
    7. go into the media folder (if it isn't there create it)
    8. go into the notifications folder (again if it isn't there then create it)
    9. paste the sound file and rename it to something you will recognize
    10. unmount and unplug the phone.
Now when you go into the app and select the notifications it should be on the list.

You don't have a computer handy? No problem

    Do the following...

    1. On the phone, go to Market
    2. Search and download the app "ES file explorer"
    3. After installation, open the app
    4. Open the "Downloads" folder
    5. Long press the sound file you want and select "Copy"
    6. Press the back radio button located at the bottom of the screen
    7. Select the "media" folder (if it doesn't exist then create it by pressing the menu radio button and choosing "New", "Folder" then name it "media")
    8. Select "notifications" folder (if it doesn't exist then create it by pressing the menu radio button and choosing "New", "Folder" then name it "notifications")
    9. Press the arrow button at the bottom of the screen then tap the file to paste it in the folder. (You can long press the file and select Rename if you want to rename it)
    10. Press the home radio button to exit
Now when you go into the app and select the notifications it should be on the list.
