Making custom cable to make DROID work in iPod dock

I am trying to make a cable in order to charge and listen to my droid on my iPod dock. Just wondering if you guys have any advice or know if theres a better way to do this... heres my plan...

Im going to create a cable that does 'female iPod connector --> male mini usb & 1/8" audio jack'

[GND] Pin 16 iPod --> Pin 5 mini USB
[5V DC] Pin 23 iPod --> Pin 1 mini USB
[R Channel] Pin 5 iPod --> 1/8" audio R
[L Channel] Pin 6 iPod --> 1/8" audio L

Now the real question is do you think I could use the iPod's serial Tx and Rx pins with the 'data' pins on the mini-usb? Are they compatible? If so it would look like this...

[Serial Tx] Pin 12 iPod --> Pin 2 mini USB
[Serial Rx] Pin 13 iPod --> Pin 3 mini USB

just noticed I called everything "mini-usb" this should be "micro-usb" in all cases

I seem to only have ONE mini-USB cable... thought I had more. I dont want to ruin the one I have as its the only way I can charge my phone. Ill post some instructions once I go buy one but there is currently 6"+ of snow on the ground here and Im not going anywhere

I acquired a female iPod plug today and plan on getting myself a micro usb tomorrow. Just wanted to bump the thread and let you guys know I still plan on making this cable.

The serial TX and RX data lines on the ipod dock connector do not map to USB data lines. USB maps to the DATA+ and DATA-

You may be able to get it to charge and maybe play music through an ipod dock but you won't be able to skip tracks or view song info on the dock, you'll have to do all that via the phone.

I'm torn between getting that one or trying the one that emulates an ipod being connected, not sure if that one will work with my car (infiniti g37, oem ipod kit)
