Is it worth rooting Droid?

I want to root my Droid ive had it for about 1 year now and its starting to
get a little boring. I know rooting can let me do more but how much more? Is it worth rooting? Will my phone get a bug/virus? And if i choose to root( probably will) what is the best set of directions out there? Im currently running android 2.2, FRG22D, no root or anything.

Here's the analogy I always use:

Not rooting your Droid is like having a Lamborghini but only driving it in subdivision streets. Sure, the potential is there, but you're not really utilizing its full potential.

The Droid is one of the best phones to hack. It's processor is probably the most impressively overclock capable mobile CPUs around. You can get extended functionality like FREE wifi tether, full system backups, and removal of system/web ads. You can simply root it to do one thing, or replace your system with a ROM like Cyanogenmod which will completely change your Droid from the ground up.

Currently, I only have wifi tether and overclocking, but for that alone it's worth it.

No, you will NOT get viruses or anything like that--in fact, that's impossible on Android. Some hacks can do some weird things, but with freedom comes responsibility. Fortunately, it's all pretty dummy proof and with backups, you never have to worry about messing something up for good.

Just do it. you basically have an endless amount of possibilities with Root. tons of custom ROM's, a bunch of different themes that will give you a totally different look, modified stock apps, overclocking, wifi tether, deleting system apps that you dont use, changing boot animations...it goes on and on. i rooted about 3 weeks after i got my phone, and havn't stopped flashing ROM's and themes since.

I used the soup or root 2.0.1 beta with the motorola mobile drivers 4.7.1 motoconnect. much easier than the other methods. you might have to do it 2-3 times for it to stick

im using the turorial Root droid 1 regardless of OS and im totally confused, how doo you unzip a file? Ive downloaded everything in things youre going to need but i just cant unzip the file in step 2. If possible is there any more detailed tutorials?

+1 to this. It uses an adb to root so its better than other 1 click root apps

That is the best tut there is, get 7zip or winip for your PC then you can unzip the files.

On click root apps like soup and easy root are VERY unreliable.
