Now that the device has been rooted all that is needed is a new ext2.ko and unionfs.ko to get Debian (or any other linux distro) working (I already have busybox installed and running).

Seems me the only remaining issue there is matching up the proper config (as it can't be pulled from /proc) with the proper source (unless the only working solution is to wholesale replace the running kernel).
Would love to hear any progress on this front.
