I have but one question though: If I decide to unroot my Droid for whatever reason, is there any way to save all my apps on my sd card so they won't be lost when I return to my unrooted phone? Or will they remain untouched?
If you got your apps from the Market place, if you do a data wipe after you unroot your phone, the apps will magically download and be in your drawer 5 mins or so after activating your phone. Google stores your contacts, apps, gmail, etc out in the cloud .

IIRC, Android runs a Java VM called Dalvik Virtual Machine on top of a Linux 2.6 kernel. It's unique among Java VMs as it is register-based as opposed to stack-based. It differes from normal Java implementations in a number of ways, mostly to optimize it for low-memory footprint.

Another reason it is used is so Google could get around licensing issues with Sun Microsystems concerning use of a traditional Java implementation.

Ok, so I am having second thoughts about keeping the 2.1 update and would like to revert. Where can I find the latest version of the OTA 2.0.1 update to download it? and do I follow the same steps I took to root and update my phone, using the 2.0.1 update in place of the 2.1?

Theres an image over on www.sholes.info that you could use. There are a couple of other places that I have not tried. There is the stock 2.0.1 and one that has root access and busybox installed.

well i was planning on unrooting after, so should i install the stock one? I just seem to be having alot of issues with the 2.1, like having to restart my phone numerous times during the day. The home page often locks up to where none of the touch options work except the lit stationary ones on the bottom of the screen

If you want to unroot "cleanly" I would suggest getting that naked image from over there, then once thats installed you will have a clean, rooted, busybox, next I would uninstall busybox and superuser and finally I would flash the fresh manual 2.0.1 image followed by a system restore / data wipe.

Depends what step you are on and what steps you have done and which recovery you are running (I assume SPRecovery-0.99.1b?)

OK so if you have the 99.1b SPRecovery you want to grab this:
    http://www.sholes.info/wp-content/up...oem-backup.zip
    1. push it to your nandroid directory
    2. boot into recovery
    3. select backup/restore
    4. select Advanced Nandroid restore
    5. select Choose backup
    6. select virginoem-backup.zip
    7. Leave the default restore options (unless you really know what you are doing)
Once the restore is done you should be able to reboot and be in 2.0.1
