Cant boot into rec mode anymore?

I thought i had my droid rooted but then couldnt get drocap to work so i know i dont have root. So i try to boot into rec mode again and now it sticks on the ! screen. Ican turn phone off and restart and everything works fine so im not bricked. But i cant boot into rec mode anyone else have this prob?

I found getting into recovery a pain too. Try holding the volume up key then press camera. If that does not work, try holding the camera button and then pressing the volume up key.

I had to try that a few times to get into it.
