Ok that worked now. Enabling all Dev options and re rooting with the update.zip file. When I get to the ls -l *su I have the following which isn't what is showing the same sizes in the instructions.
-rwsr-xr-x root root 72188 2009-12-09 15:41 osu
-rwsr-sr-x root root 76232 2009-12-09 15:43 su
Is that right or is something wrong? Also in the OSU its showing XR and in the instructions it's showing SR.

You need to extract the files you downloaded to the Android folder. The tools is a folder within the SDK files.
-
ok done and rebooted correctly. How can I verify I am not rooted?
-
you mean verify that you are rooted? many ways... download "terminal emulator android" and try to access su... or download drocap2 and see if you can get screenshots of your homescreens. sounds like it was successful

I looked in the original sdk zip file and did not see the tools folder there: here is what I see in the sdk zip file.
I get an error: The system cannot find the path specified when I typed in cd c:Android\tools
If I take off tools, it didn't give me that error message.

I appreciate you help.

that's the newest android sdk? seems like there is no file structure there. all files were dumped in one directory? there should be a few folders... one of them being tools... redownload from google.
