Just rooted Droid 1, issues with tethering

Just rooted Droid 1 (2.2) with Easy Root. Easy root worked great and I downloaded the app "Hotspot Widget" v. 1.2. Hotspot Widget starts up fine and my iPad connects perfectly, but I can't shut down the app. I press the icon to stop tethering, the shut down script initiates, and then it returns to an active tether. The only way to turn off the hotspot is to reboot the device. I deleted the app and tried Barnacle. The iPad won't connect to the device when using Barnacle. The iPad isn't the only device I intend to connect to the Droid, just the one I have handy. Goal is to have hotspot functionality that will accommodate Apple or MS based devices and will shut down without having to shut down the phone. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
