AFAYK, is there any difference to whether you use the new apps Easy Root/Universal Androot to root your phone, or doing it the traditional way using Open Recovery (ie. here)? Are they technically the same thing or are there certain things you can't do if you use the shortcut method by using an app to root?
I'm on Milestone 2.1 and would like to root to use Apps2SD, but I'd like to do it the best/correct way the first time so I don't mess up/have to it again.

10-10-2010 08:05 AMI dont have a Milestone, nor have I ever used any auto rooting software (aside from SMU back in the day).
Root by definition is one thing and one thing alone. I would expect that the method by which you achieve that goal has little impact on the end results. -

10-10-2010 08:14 AMI have a milestone with android 2.1, I used Easy Root.. its really simple and takes less than 1-2 mins.. I can run most rooted apps like overclock apps.. but somehow, OpenVPN is not working.. not sure if its related to root..
