My recipe for a SUPER FAST Droid
One of my biggest concerns with the Droid since day one has been speed--not necessarily within some apps, but system wide. It's frustrating to see even the latest and greatest phones still struggle with things like menu swipes and app lists. With many months of constant modding and tweaking, I can finally say I am quite proud with the performance of my Droid. For those like me who prefer speed and response over flash, you will appreciate my setup for the speediest Droid experience.
Here is what I have:
- CyanogenMod 6.0 RC2 Nightly Build: 08032010
- ChevyNo1 2.6.32 Overclock Kernel - Medium Voltage @ 1Ghz
- ADW Launcher
Here are the respective settings:
CyanogenMod Performance Settings
- JIT enabled
- Surface Dithering disabled
- Lock Home in Memory enabled
- VM Heap Size set at 32m
ADW Launcher Settings
- Desktop Scrolling Speed set at 0
- Animated Drawer disabled
- Fade App Labels disabled
- Wallpaper Hack enabled
- Orientation Sensor disabled
- System Persistent enabled
Spare Parts Settings
- Window Animations set to Off
- Transition Animations set to Off
- Fancy Input Animations disabled
With this combination of software and settings, I absolutely guarantee you will not find a faster experience on the original Droid. Unfortunately, if you prefer flashy effects and a little more "pop", you will not like this as it disables all these additional effects. I also know there are higher clocked and higher voltage kernels out there, but for the stability and speed, I have not found anything better.
I've compared this to another rooted Droid and even a stock Droid and I have to say that this blows them out of the water.

quick question: How long does your battery last at 1ghz?
-
I can last all day on a single charge.

Thats what he said.
I don't see many people rolling with Medium Voltage. Mind explaining why you use that over low voltage?

Some people's Droids will not run low voltage.

Thanks guys.
Won't MV pull more battery power than LV?
What do you think about LauncherPro vs ADW Launcher?
Lastly, is Cynogen Mod that much faster than any other current source ROMs?

1) Yes it will, but LV can cause instability in many people's Droids.
2) I've always preferred ADW Launcher. In personal experience, it's faster.
3) The cool think about CyanogenMod is that it's from the source code released by Google. Because of this, it will be among the most stable of popular ROMs.

1) Alright cool, never had an issue myself.
2) So you have used both before and found ADW faster/better?
3) Is that what the term ASOP is when I heard it tossed around? So the other source ROMs such as Lithium/UltimateDroid/Sapphire etc are not based off the Google code?
Also, as of the past few weeks I havn't seen much about CyanogenMod, like not seeing it in people sig's etc.
Thanks for all the information by the way

can you post your bench scores from setcpu ?
I like cm but the last 2 builds borked my droid. I been using bugless beast and I am impressed on how stable and quick it is. Don't get me wrong I do like CM but I have not been able to run the lastest 2 stable builds stable on my droid for some reason.
I am using bugless beast / chevy kernel med volt 1ghz
battery goes 12 hours straight and will have 65% of its charge unless i game.
