    Uninstalling Bloatware

    Folks,

I've recently rooted and am running the Sapphire 8.4 build. I'd like to uninstall some of the bloatware that comes on the stock build, (amazon mp3 for example) but for many of the apps the uninstall option is unselectable. I was under the impression that rooted users could uninstall any applications.

Am I missing something? Educate me.

I run the script in term emulator, and it returns a permissions error:

Mount: permissions denied (are you root?)
Can't remove file, read-only file system.

    Apparently I'm not boss enough?

Run Rom Manger and go to the bottom of menu and select Fix Permissions. It's about the only thing for which I would recommend Rom Manager.

Sorry, misread you post: run sysrw first perhaps and then the script.

Sysrw returns the same (are you root?) message. I also downloaded ROM Manager and ran the permissions fix. Still no dice.

    Are you typing SU first?

If you are, go back to my first suggestion to run fix permissions in Rom Manager.

The SU prefix got the job done. Thank you so much for all of your help man.

Any other advice for a semi-ignorant root newbie?

Make frequent backups with either SpRecovery or Clockwork. I prefer SpRecovery simply because it is rock solid and always works. Lean how to install roms/kernels/themes etc. with it and don't rely on Rom Manager. Rom Manager will leave you hung up sooner or later.

    Good luck and have fun!!
