Can anybody help me?!!! I have a major problem w/ rooted d1

Here's the story:

I had a rooted 2.2 D1 running CM6 and I wanted to add a custom theme. I tried to install the theme using ROM Manager and Metamorph with no success. When I tried to boot into SPRecovery, the phone didn't take. So, I thought that I had to re-flash SPRecovery to the phone and took the necessary steps. This is when things went bad. The phone now locks up at the "unlock" screen, it says that everything on the phone must force close. I can boot into recovery mode and have tried clearing caches and all memory with no success. I would try to flash the rom again, but the "update.zip" file on the SD card is now the theme that I wanted to install and the SD card is in accessible unless it is mounted from the Droid. Does anyone have any suggestions on what my next steps should be? Thanks

did you make a backup?

yes, i had a backup made

I tired to boot the backup but was unsure on how exactly to do that, think you could give me a quick run through

yes no need for a new post, while in recovery go to the nandroid section and go to restore, and pick whiever backup is the nwest one i assume or something older your choice

ok, hypothetically, what if there is no backup? royally skrewed?

not necessarily, could always master reset

and I assume a master reset is done in SPRecover at the nandroid screen as well

I suggest restoring. If that doesn't work go(in sprecovery) to partitions and connect your droid to computer. Hit enable usb mass storage. You can now put a rom update.zip in there and install it(make sure to wipe data & cache before)
