Motorla Droid... Rooted, but... umm... Not

Not sure how I did this... but I want/need to un-do it.


Running 2.1 from a factory update. Some how, I have a super user (root) icon in my list, however my phone is NOT rooted and it does me no good.

I want to put my phone back to stock, as in brand new out of the box with 2.0.1 and then get 2.1 on it. I just did a hard reset on the phone hoping it would get rid of the ninja, however it did not.

Okay I am not sure I follow you. You said that you are unsure how you did this but you have a superuser ninja icon??

How do you know if you phone is rooted or not? Kinda sounds like you dunno what your doing. If you had 2.0.1 stock you shoulda downloaded the dmupdater from droidmod and done the push 10 ok buttons to root your phone.

But if you want completely stock, if you are able to rom manager use it and flash clockworkmod to your recovery then go to download roms - stock images - stock 2.0.1 and choose without root if thats what you wish.

If not then you need to flash Motorola's stock sbf file to your phone

Yea, basically in a nutshell you just download the stock 2.0.1 .zip file, rename it to update.zip, put it on the root (not in any folders) of your SD card, turn off the phone, hold X, hit power button, once it lights up let go of power, keep holding X, wait for recovery to load, let go of X, wipe data (factory reset), wipe cache, scroll to install update.zip (depreciated), let it install (flash) and reboot.... you're unrooted.

Hrm, can't get away with the short story here.....

.... was on 2.0.1 rooted.... upgraded to 2.1, thought I had unrooted prior to the upgrade, appariently not. When I upgraded to 2.1 I kept the super user icon but lost root (obviously).


I ended up just installing rooted 2.2 today.... so, problem solved for the most part. This will suffice provided that the phone stays stable.
