Is my phone rooted? [super noob question]

Hi. I followed the guide for getting the 2.2 update for my moto droid (the non-rooted user version). I was wondering if my phone is rooted now in the process. If not, will a root work now?

If you have a little ninja named superuser permissions in your app drawer you are rooted
