I love change. Don't get me wrong. I love trying new roms, leaks, betas...none of that bothers me. But every time I try a new one I have to spend an hour or more setting the phone back up. I go home and try to call my wife to see if I should stop and pick up dinner...Blue Tooth is not connected to my hands free...forgot to set that back up. It does get old.
But when Verizon releases an OTA update I do not lose my settings and the data/cache do not create problems and I do not get stuck in a boot loop. So it is obvioulsy posible to install a new rom without wiping data and cache.
Can't one of these amazing developers write an install routine that cleanly installs a new ROM without having to wipe my A$$ every time?

Amen! Or just a all in one backup solution!
I use Titanium backup and My Back Up and neither does it all.
We really need this.

I try different roms almost daily and I almost never wipe. The only time I wipe is 1) if I am going to a different os (2.1 to 2.2) or 2) if I have problems after an install and that almost never happens.
As an example, yesterday I went from BBv0.3 to FRF84b (P3's version) to Sapphire to BB04 and back to BB03 and I never wiped and I have had zero issues.
I think a big difference in what I do and others is that I use only Sprecovery. I do not use Rom Manager and clockwork.
YMMV !!

Hey there,
If you just want the system such as froyo, here is what you can do to help your issue.
NOTE: This is ONLY for Froyo Builds, I havn't tested it on others.
If your on a Froyo build, or want to go one, here is what you can do.
1. Download the .zip
2. Reboot the phone into recovery and choose Nandroid, advanced restore.
3. Hit Choose .zip and find the file. Them just make sure there is a * next to system and nothing else and there ya go.
Your data is saved.
