    Stock 2.1 to 2.2?

see post 13 for an actual guide instead of what was my plan of attack. Much easier to follow, and mine was really more of a "amidoinitrite?"

Stock 2.1 to 2.2 Froyo Step By Step installation

    ---------------------------------------

I'm a techy kind of guy, but I've never bothered with rooting my phone as I didn't really see the point too much. However I saw how long it took to get 2.1 for my droid, so I've decided to move to 2.2 a bit earlier than the official update.

Before I start I just wanted to make sure I've got all my ducks in a line. So if i could have somebody look over my plan of attack and let me know if I'm missing anything, or if there is something that I should be aware of.

First, in case i change my mind or need to bring my droid in for warranty, i found the following to unroot and bring me back to stock.

*Easiest* way to get back to stock (No root, no busybox)

Next I plan on following this guide to install sprecovery on my stock 2.1 droid.

How-To Root your stock 2.1 Droid

(i believe all i need to get to is the point where I have sprecovery installed as the next step is restoring a nandroid backup that already has root enabled. Am I right?)

Ok, now I'm going to use the following to get me some froyo.

Download Froyo (2.2) for Your Motorola Droid ! ! !

and because I want my wifi to work, i'm going to grab a new kernel from here.

    http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/p...-wifi-fix.html

Now that last link seems a little light on the installation instructions of that new kernel, so does anybody know what I need to do to get that kernel installed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

everything looks good to me. just remember to do a full backup before installing froyo. as for the kernel, all you have to do it download whichever kernel you want... then rename the file to update.zip and place it on the root of your SD card (aka not in a folder). then restart into recovery by powering off the phone then powering on while holding X on the keyboard. once it's in recovery, go down to the last option which says install. press allow install. then press install update.zip deprecated.

Windoze 7 Premium 64-bit. I dual boot with Ubuntu 10.04, but I know this cannot be done in Ubuntu.

No. I don't have it up in front of me right this second, but it said something to the effect fail to flash in one column and just "fail" in the other column. rsdlite did see my phone, and I got the right menu on the phone.
