Got it going, thanks a million
Glad you got it to work.
I put up a mirror that P3Driod posted.
Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.

So far, everything is running beautifully and my Droid is indeed much much faster.

I did choose a 125-800 OC kernel and my Quadrant tests have confirmed it was boosted from 350 to 800+ (faster than the HTC Incredible)!

Great job! Thanks so much for your hard work and documentation. I now have a rooted 2.2 Droid.

The Froyo upgrade is well worth it!

I installed the first Froyo leak back when it came out and lost root.....I did what the post above said....and I had root again. At the most? 2-3 minutes to boot into recovery and install update.zip.

I dont know if ppl are losing root with the 2nd leak, but if you do, just follow the post above to get root back. And dmartins, you can definitely add that to your amazing tutorial. Nice job if I didnt mention it before...
    Thanks.
    I'm glad to have helped.
I never rooted or installed a ROM before but with Froyo I just had too.
I noticed a lot of problems people were have becuase of missing or incorrect info.
So once I went through it I decide to make it easier for others.

Check for Superuser Permissions in the menu.
If you have it check to make sure SetCPU is allowed.
If you don't have it then follow these instructions:
    1. From Windows Download the update.zip
    2. Now copy the update.zip you downloaded to your SD card. (Example H:\update )
    3. Unmount your Droid from Windows and turn off USB Mass Storage
    4. Turn off your Droid and then turn on while holding x.(hold x before and after turning on the phone)
    5. Select install
    6. Select Allow update.zip Installation
    7. Select Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated) and wait for it to complete without errors.
    8. Reboot and Check for Superuser Permissions.
Thanks dmartins it worked now i'm finally rooted to 2.2 froyo and its awsome

I just flashed back to smoked glass. Had ALL sorts of issues with froyo. slowed down, locked up, crashed, etc. Not worth it IMO.

It is very slow!!(It has to sync and download everything and this takes time 30Min to an hour)
    You must have missed this.
If you think any 2.1 ROM is faster than Froyo then you didn't wait long enough.
I'm running at stock speeds with no slow downs, lockups or ever crashing.
I have been running Froyo since the 6th.

    Build number

So what should your build number be if you have the latest Froyo release?

I thought I got the most recent one and I have

    voles-userdebug 2.2 FRFxx 49593 test-keys

BTW, the battery issue I had this week was from downloading the wrong nandroid file.

I am seeing a lagging launcher and so I want to make certain that I have the latest before I decide if I want to go back to 2.1 or download a replacement launcher.

Next step will be to update the baseband.

    Thanks for the help,
    Andy

The latest is FRF57. Looking in the About Phone screen isnt gonna help. I read that the test keys mean nothing. Some fixes and/or installing the root update.zip changes some of that info. Or it may have already looked like that from the beginning.

Did it say what version it was in the post where u downloaded it from?

I think the only way to tell as of now is if chrome to phone works. If u can register the device, u are on FRF57. MotoTorch was another way to tell, but the dev updated it and it no longer works on FRF57. If u can find an older version that can be another way to tell. Version 2.8 worked on Froyo the last time I checked.

MotoTorch 2.8 is there, but u have to register first. And I'm at work so I cant upload it somewhere for u.

    jroc,

I downloaded/installed from page 2 of this thread (dr. martin). He has now updated it for the new version, so I think I am running the original leak. The good thing is that I am now comfortable with tweaking this phone.

I am concerned though with the lagginess of the launcher, but other than that, I am happy.

I will give the chrome to phone thing as well.

    Thanks,
    Andy

Did you have a warning that your phone wasn't rooted?
If so you need to apply the fix for root.
If not then you need to allow SetCPU in the Superuser Permissions app.
