Rooting my Droid. Couple backup questions.

Hey guys, I've been a lurker here for a while, just now posting.

So basically, I want to root my and I am going to use the guide posted here: How-To Root your stock 2.1 Droid

My question is about backing up my apps and, more importantly, my contacts. If I root my phone, does it erase all my contacts? I assume it does, if so, where do I back them up to for safe keeping? Also, further down where it has the nandroid backup, where is that backup written to? the SD Card?

Contacts are stored with your Google account, make sure you sync it right before you root. Backups are on the SD card.

All your contacts are on google as well as your paid apps so once you sign back into your google account all your contacts will sync over and your paid apps will be waiting for you to reinstall.

mybackup pro can backup any apps that weren't paid for, as well as things like system settings, music playlists, sms logs, etc., and you don't need root

and yes, nandroid's are stored on the sd card
