    Trying to overclock

So I'm interested in overclocking my droid. I'm rooted but not using any custom roms and all that, I just wanted root access for OC'ing and anything else that's convenient of rooting.

Issue is, everything about overclocking on this site is broken up in 43578430 different posts all spread out instead of one guide, so I did a google search for it and I found guides, but the only thing that isn't explained which im getting confused about is this part

OverClocking Motorola Droid To 1.3 GHz In 7 Easy Steps | areacellphone.com

    2. You must have flash_image on your system, in /system/xbin/ or /system/bin.
is flash_image the evilboot8.img ill be downloading and how do I get to the system folder? I can only seem to get to it using astro.

    Thanks guys

    Re: Trying to overclock

    Hi spykez,

Overclocking is very simple. You download set CPU from the market download an overclocking kernel of your choice.

Rename the zip to update.zip/place on the root of your SD card/boot into recovery/do an advanced nandroid backup/allow update.zip/install update.zip (depracated)/reboot.

If the kernel plays well with your device it will boot and remain stable. While playing with your clock speeds in set CPU you have to experiment with different speeds to insure stability.

    What?

Already have a nandroid backup, the .zips come with a .img file in them is that ok? Cause I just tried it and it said installation aborted. Your directions really make no sense :\

CK's instructions are perfectly correct. But, allow me to re-phrase:

    1) Download the kernel. (should be in .zip form)

    2) Using a file explorer, on your phone, move the downloaded file from your download folder (/sdcard/download) to the root of your sdcard (/sdcard)

    3) Rename downloaded file to update.zip

    4) Restart the phone in recovery mode.

    5) Perform an advanced backup

    6) select install update.zip

Personally, I use one of P3's kernels. They can be found here.

To me it looked like a leprechaun to me!
    sorry...

Rooting is not for everyone I guess. Well, if you ever get tired of that game, there is much, much more to having root access than just overclocking your CPU.

Odd... I am rooted (Dominator ROM, BB 1.0) and I play Homerun Battle 3D all the time. I am OC'd (on demand) to 1.2Ghz. Were you just rooting the stock 2.1, or did you load a custom ROM?
