This thread was interesting. Ok, so by reading everyone's comments, I get that "root-ing" is not a necessity but more of a want for people who know what they are getting into.

As for me, I am not a techie so I will continue to enjoy my Droid as is.

I was thinking the same thing before I rooted mine. But then I saw that you can always restore your phone back to it's original state if you have to bring it back to the Verizon Store for example.

Then I rooted it and I absolutely love it. I got Metamorph working and other cool features added to it as well.

Quick Tip: Sholes.info ROM works wonders

I mean if your good and getting your phone the way you want it without rooting it, that's great but with me I just think of it being the fact that it can be done.

I used to jailbreak my iPod touch and whatnot to make it just like the DROID but the freedom and cool functionalities of the DROID itself completely blows the iPod touch and the iPhone away.

Yeah, but rooting mostly allows your phone to be customized to the way you like it. That's mainly the only reason why I rooted.

I found no other use for rooting other than customization.

Heh, yeah. It's sort of like the craze of jailbreaking on the iPhone's and iPod touch's.
