adb:error device not found

ive been having trouble setting up adb shell with my phone and its really starting to irritate me. ive googled and youtubed ways one how to do it but for some reason when i do the commands it says: daemon running then it says error:device not found. can some1 please help me out? thanks

Exactly what are you typing? Hard to say what's wrong without knowing all the details.

ok so i downloaded the latest sdk unzipped it placed it in my C drive (i have vista) and then i type these commands:
cd/
cd/AndroidSDK/tools/
adb devices
i get to the folder and after typing adb devices and hitting enter it says list of adb devices and there is nothing there

Do you have USB Debugging enabled on the phone?

Also, be sure you have installed the Droid drivers on that computer.

i have dubugging on and but idk if the drivers r installed

ehhh the whole point of this was so i could install dark edge....the adb shell is setup thanks to your help but ive tried time and time again with dark edge and its just not working out for me

so i give up.....i have followed the instructions and the video and m problem is when i click the ftw.exe and select ESE81 and it runs the commands, i get some errors in the process. it reads the phone because it reboots my phone but them i am just stuck on the m logo forever
