    E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory) Installation Aborted
    that's what i get when i try to run ESE81update.zip and it only has one .zip its just update.zip and its a rar file

    I had the same problem. Mount the phone and delete the zip fiile from the sd card. Rename the file just 'update.' And then drag to the root of the sd card again.

    I'm getting this error message e can't open /cache/recover/command

    HELP-I've been trying to root my stock 2.1 for 3 days. I need an instruction for dummies because I can't seem to get this. I have a mac and rsd lite refuses to play. Loved my previously rooted phone. Again, HELP

    I will be honest, I have heard that it is a nightmare to root a phone using a Mac. I understand there is a step by step instructional on the forum but it is really hard. If you have any access to a PC I would use that and the process should only take you maybe an hour. I had my husband's 2.1 rooted in less than an hour on a PC.

    If you are on a Mac just follow the normal steps except do not use Safari, use Firefox instead. Your issues will vanish.

    I am also trying to manually restore my htc eris and also get this message
    E: Can't open sdcard/update.zip installation aborted

    Also cant boot my phone stays on droid screen
