Im confused, (Again)
I saw the sticky in here that made me believe I could now root my 2.1 phone without have to take it back to 2.0 first. The pointend to this link
2.1 SP Recovery SBF has arrived ! but I find nothing that gives me a way to root the phone only backing it up. Am I reading this wrong?

Re: Im confused, (Again)
While flashing sprecovery image to 2.1 does not give you root access, it does allow you to install the rom of your choosing(which will have root access)
It might seem like there is conflicting information out there but thats only because for a few weeks the only option was to flash the stock 2.0.1 (or 2.0) sbf stock image and root from there.

su = permission denied
Yes, it is confusing! I tried this but obviously have not achieved root status given the error message. Then, I tried the ROM manager and that doesn't work.
It erred on running privileged commands during Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Very frustrating!

Re: Im confused, (Again)
This is the method I used to get root and it worked perfectly for me.

The link mwhartman listed is the same as the 3rd in my signature. Compare the thread in the first post to that, give both a read-through, then decide which path you want to take. I think most on the RS team are now recommending the thread hosted here as an easier to follow process.

If you apply a rom or theme - backup first!
If you don't know how to backup...Stop until you do.
hint: I name my backups like this: sg6.0_20100428 or ss4.2_20100626 to easily find them later. rom and date.

Are you sure you've installed the correct set? One is 32 bit and one is 64.
