Android wired tether and Windows XP laptop
I have searched long and hard, and it must be late because I can't figure this out. Help!
I have a rooted 2.1 with UD v10 and am trying to do wired USB tethering (dont want to run down my battery). I am trying to use this
android-wired-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code
but every time I plug in my Droid it asks for Motorola A855 drivers, which I can't seem to find. I also seem to be missing some sort of client software on my XP laptop.
Any ideas to do USB tethering that are not PDA.net?
Thanks!

Droid, ADB Drivers, and Windows 7
Is this the driver you tried to use? USB and PC Charging Drivers - Motorola USA
That is the one I am using on Windows 7 for ADB it works just fine.
Let me know if that works for you.

I would assume those drivers would work, although I've never had to manually install any drivers when using wired tethering.

Thanks, I extracted the drivers using msiexec and no joy. This is very odd because I have used adb and connected fine. It is only asking me for a driver when I turn wired tethering on, and it doesnt seem to recognize the drivers in that package.
When I turn off wired tetherimg, the phone is recognized (I see the motorola logo in the device tray and it says status connected). It is only when I turn on wired tethering that it develops amnesia.
Anyone using this wired tethering apk on their rooted phone and a XP machine?

just use EasyTether. I'm using it right now, it works great, and its easy as hell to setup. It pretty much does everything for you and even remembers to tether it after initial use. Yeah i payed 10 bucks or something for it off the app market but hell, 10 bucks for unlimited wireless internet that usually costs 60 bucks a month? I'm no Einstein but 10 bucks seems worth it to me.

I may end up going that route, but this is more of a challenge for me now than anything else. I want to understand why it isnt working like it should.
It's personal.

Bump. Found this thread on another forum.
Wired Tether Help For Droid - Android Forums
Apparently it works on Windows 7/Vista. Will need to try it with my HP Netbook when I get home. If it does, then it means XP officially got old...

Ok. I plugged it into my Windows 7 desktop, and voila! I was on the Internet in no time. It detected the device, installed the NDIS driver, and automatically configured the internet connection.
Wow.
Now, I need to do this in Windows XP....
