Rofl...that's what they said when they asked me to take a Droid out of the box and now 6 months later you're trying to show me a new toy?
I know it can be easier to use the computer keyboard instead of the phone's keyboard for commands but being real comfortable at the command prompt already using the phone's keyboard has been ok. Then along came Root Explorer and other tools that made things even easier, then finally the SBF files. The superuser.apk doesn't have to be pushed onto the phone. Pete's ese81 rooted rom is good to go. sprecovery lets you flash any rom you want and/or with ese81 rooted the door to Rom Manager is opened too.
I want to find time for learning some theme tricks too. For the average joe trying to just root it can be easier to just do what it takes and then if they need/want to reach out for more there it is for them. Bite sized chunks, so to speak.
Speaking of which...I need to see if someone finally created that clear glass BW theme![]()

If you apply a rom or theme - backup first!
If you don't know how to backup...Stop until you do.
hint: I name my backups like this: sg6.0_20100428 or ss4.2_20100626 to easily find them later. rom and date.

I get this message when I hit start on RSD. I downloaded the spf twice and it recognizes the phone but when I hit start I get this error message. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
is there an easier/quicker way of doing this? i dont remember it being so damn difficult on 2.0.1 rom???
2 ways:
1) use sbf to flash the 2.1 with sprecovery
2) install 2.1 rooted update.zip to a stock 2.01 phone.

there has to be an easier way to root a stock 2.1
once 2.1 is rooted we can OC right? Are there any kernels that allow us to OC on 2.1?
So when i go to flash the new sbf file i have my RSDLite and i ahve the file selected in the bar up top. and my droid is recognized but it will not let me start the flashing process. why?
Also, the phone is brand new as i just got a replacement sent to me. I have not activated it yet; could this be the issue?
Easier? Just follow the steps. In the 3rd link of my sig, go through that thread. Last Monday I went from rooted, to stock, to rooted again in about an hour and a half. If I followed my own directions instead of missing a step it would have taken less than an hour. That's to go full circle. Install RSD Lite. Flash SPRecovery. Make a backup, just in case. Flash the rom you want. Done.
The file that lets you have a rooted stock 2.1 (does that even make sense....same exact stock 2.1 except you have root access) does not have an overclockable kernel. You can install one though, because you then have root access. At that point, might as well try one of the prepackaged roms.
