Has anyone tried to overclock OTA 2.1 with root? If so what kernels have you used that work? Thanks.

Lots of poeple have. "OTA 2.1" is just different apps mixed in with a different kernel.
You can use AdamZ's or ChevyNo1's or p3 or whomever's kernel and overclock. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OTA 2.1 or ESE53 or anything else.
KERNEL = The core of the operation system.
ROM = The framework in which is operates with some built-in apps.
OVERCLOCKING (what the kernel does)

trying to install the damn android sdk and it keeps timing out when trying to update the packages. is there another way to do this. im guessing it wont do it through tethering my phone for internet. i am not able to get internet here

I'm not at me home PC right now, but there is a setting in the update section where u can change it to search http or something. Its something in the update section that needs to be changed.
EDIT: Go to Settings. Near the bottom under Misc check 'Force https sources to be fetched using http' See if that helps.

Not sure which tutorial version is which, but if you do the one that tells you to flash the SPRecovery SPF with RSD, then do the 4 lines of simple code via ADB to add SU and Superuser.apk then no you will not lose anything.

How-To Root your stock 2.1 Droid
Take a glance at the 3rd link in my signature. It comes across even cleaner. To root the phone you don't need to install the SDK at all. The majority of people don't need to use it. In fact I've never installed it and get around just fine. Any suggestions to make those instructions clearer is welcome.

If you apply a rom or theme - backup first!
If you don't know how to backup...Stop until you do.
hint: I name my backups like this: sg6.0_20100428 or ss4.2_20100626 to easily find them later. rom and date.
