question about rooting.

i have the 2.1 version and was thinking about rooting. and ive read you have to go back to 2.0.1 then root it to a 2.1. but i was wondering how can i keep my apps i downloaded, since you have to go back to a 2.0.1 stock? im only worried about one app, because it's the only one i paid for. the others i can just d/l again.also the pictures and videos i have taken would they be saved somehow too? and i was wondering if there was a way to save my texts i have, i use handcent.

I use MyBackup Pro from the market place. It's a paid app but I've unrooted, rerooted and installed Roms and still have all my apps using this.

Paid apps are stored with your Google account, so as long as you use the same Google account when you flash, you'll still have your paid apps, easy peasy.

Your apps are also kept in the "google cloud". If you were to go back to stock, once you reactivate your phone you can go to the market and then click the menu button and select "downloads" and you will see the list of apps you had.
