    What are the effects of factory reset on a rooted droid?

    I'm looking to go from a 2.0.1 version of Bugless Beast to a 2.1 version, and the guide I'm using says I need to do a data wipe. Do I need to or is there any reason to unroot before I do this? And technically, if I do a data wipe, do I by default lose root?

    Pretty noobish questions here, but I don't want to brick, thanks in advance.

    Data wipe shouldnt have an effect on root, and yes, you'll need to wipe it when going from 2.0.1 to 2.1 in order to prevent problems. No need to unroot or anything, you'll just lose all of your personal settings and apps.

    Dont fear the brick, no one's really killed their phone yet that I know of. I'd be impressed if you were the first.

    No you wont loose root. There are 3 MAIN partitions of your phone:

    System = default apps (youtube, texting app, Phone app, etc.)
    Data = apps from market and settings you change
    Boot = your kernel

    Root files (Superuser.apk 'ninja app' and su) are placed in the system partition in order to be rooted. A data wipe, wipes the data partition only.

    But since you are installing a new BB ROM, you are going to lose the rooted system partition that you have at this moment. But since you're installing BB, it already includes the Superuser.apk and su in it's system partition....see?
