Clockworks Recovery vs. SPRecovery - PRO's & CON's. Which is better?

Okay, well, I've been using SPRecovery since I first put Droidmod, Bugless, etc on my Droid but lately I've been hearing about a new recovery method called Clockworks Recovery. Now, I've never heard of this recovery method till now, so I know nothing about it so I wanted to ask a few things about the people that DO know about it.

What're the PRO's and CON's between SPRecovery and Clockworks recovery, and which one do you think is better.

--------
Has the most support (for now).
Allows for tgz installations, which give you greater options during installing ROM.
Allows nandroid backups, partial or full.
Allows update.zip rom installations (must be named only update.zip).
Can do partial nandroid recoveries.


Cons
-----
Non standard--only the Droid community stores nandroids as tar files and uses tgz installation roms.
Requires zip files to be named only update.zip.


CW Pros
--------
Couple with Premium ROM Manager, allows for OTA updates.
Nandroid open source standard.
Can browse SD Card.
Does not require update.zip format. Any rom name.zip works.
Updated more often than sprecovery.


Cons
-----
Not as widely used.
Does not support tgz at all.
Has had some growing pains, but is doing well now.

Can you use clockwork with any rom or just cyanogenmod?

Any non tgz ROM. So pretty much any thing but DroidMod and I think AdamZ (I think he recently went to tgz format).

ROM manager will flash either recovery with one click, also allows for OTA ROM updates and OTA ROM downloads (premium version is required for any ROM other than CM, which include bugless beast and ultimate droid ROMs)

Because you support the developer of the app?

Like most programs, it exists out of convenience. No, you don't have to use it, but it makes things a lot quicker, smoother, and easier.

You are donating for the premium version because Koush alone supports the app, and regularly updates it as well and supports it. None of the ROM devs on it do. They are there, for your convenience. He is providing a service for free, and gives you that much more, for a small one time cost. He didn't have to extend his hand to other devs to use ROM Manager, but he did, thereby increasing the user friendliness of installing different ROMs, OTA.

So if you don't see a need/use for it, don't do it. Nothing is required about it, not even to get CM.

FYI: Adamz does the smoked glass roms, Pete does the BB series.

you dont have to, you can DL to pc and place on your sdcard and install from sd card in the free rom manager. But for OTA DL and OTA updates, you would need the premium (unless you use CM as stated earlier)

I personally bought the premium app to support him and the work he has done, rom manager and recovery update almost everyday. That's a lot of time and effort to keep coming out with those updates, aside from keeping up with the CM ROM as well

SPrecovery has been out for a while. If you make nandroid backups it stores them in one place.

ClockworkRecovery is newer. It stores backups and looks for them in another place. This is one incompatibility which makes restoring SPR nandroid backups difficult without shell work on CWR.

CWR offers no Advanced Nandroid Backup. SPR does. That means if you want to exclude a partition from CWR, you can't.

Other than that, functionality described by previous posters covers it well.

Also, Clockwork Recovery takes longer to create and restore backups than SPRecovery.
