Increase Camera Picture Quality?

Hey guys, sorry that i'm a newb to the forums and don't have many posts, ive pretty much been browsing the forums for quite some time, just never thought about making an account.

Well on with the topic, Increasing Camera Picture Quality.

NOTE: If you don't have root access, you cannot do this, just forewarning you...

I'm sure many of you fellow rooters have heard of the trick to increase the video quality by changing one line in the Build.Prop file.

By changing

ro.media.enc.hprof.vid.bps=3000000

to

ro.media.enc.hprof.vid.bps=8000000

You can have excellent quality film, simply by telling Android to not compress the files nearly as much as it wants to.





I have a "theory" on how to do the same with picture quality.

By changing

ro.media.dec.jpeg.memcap=2000000

to

ro.media.dec.jpeg.memcap=8000000

should that have the possiblity of increasing picture quality?

my only concern is the .dec. instead of .enc. (decrypt and encrypt?)

that could simply mean the max it can open

i tried it and i thought it looked somewhat clearer, but i want multiple to test it and then we can see the results

NOTE: The command line is the 8th line from the bottom in /system/build.prop/

From what I've read on some forums, success may vary when increasing the video recording quality. When I previously switched to "ro.media.enc.hprof.vid.bps=8000000" I experienced video blur/gap. Apparently some of the stock sdcards (Class 2...the slowest) can choke on a higher data flow. So I switched to a faster sdcard (Class 6) ... which can run around $60+ for 16gb of decent quality (be careful with some of those eBay "deals"). For those who can do this with the stock Droid sdcard, great!

Pre sure looks better to me. And I'm guessing camera modification may depend on which version is running on one's Droid. My original 2.0.1 had limited camera settings whereas 2.1 ESE53 gave me more camera tweak settings (i.e. 2mb-5mb, super fine, etc.).

I had those same tweaks in 2.0.1.
