Might I ask why you'd need to return to stock? Couldnt the DM guys just push out the update for you?

Somewhat the same route for me. I have unrooted already and want to see how the 2.1 runs officially and then i will wait for the droidmod team to get theirs out that way i can compare apples to apples as far as stability. (don't think droidmod will have any stability issues. they are a great group of developers) Just my opinion.
I'm sure it will be possible, but understand that there is a chance you won't get root for awhile if you let the OTA update on your phone. Just because they rooted N1 doesn't mean it's so easy for Droid 2.1. I'm almost positive we will get it, but just make sure you know what your doing. There really is no reason to return to stock. We are using exactly what they are putting out, and I highly doubt you will notice any difference with the radio update. I'm just waiting for this new update to be broken down and turned in to rooted ROM's before doing anything, I am perfectly happy with my phone as it is now. I could see if we were still on 2.0.1 ROM's.
And why is that?
Motorola compiled it from AOSP and optimized it. Not Verizon.
Seems like the obvious thing to do if you value the option of switching ROM's is to stay rooted through the OTA period and wait until the Developers have a chance to examine this build/update.
Staying rooted and happy to be rooted for sure.

Yes it's Fast!!
Android has the best developers!
one question about this baseband stuff, if i use rsdlite update the baseband and reroot and flash sprecovery can i just restore to my nandroid backup and maintain the updated baseband, cuz i dont really want to resetup everything AGAIN
Did you just post this to Hofo?
Anyway, yes, but you cannot use your nandroid until you put sprecovery back on the phone.
