cant update SPRecovery to 3b

I have SPRecovery 1b installed on phone.

Trying to update to 2b or 3b so I can run smoked glass rom.
Everytime I try the cmd line prompts to flash recovery image, when i boot back into recovery it still says 1b

very annoying.

my cmd line prompts:

"su" press enter
"flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-0.99.3b.img" press enter
"reboot recovery" press enterit doesnt work.

Define doesn't work.

Give us the terminal output after the flash commands.

Do you have the NEW recovery image on your sd card?
(i know this is a silly question)

These 2 files go in the root of your sdcard:

flash_image
SPRecovery 0.99.3b

These are the correct commands:

adb shell
dd if=/sdcard/flash_image of=/data/local/flash_image
chmod 755 /data/local/flash_image
rm /sdcard/flash_image
su
/data/local/flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-0.99.3b.img
mount -o remount,rw /dev/null /system
mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from-boot.p.bak
mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
reboot recovery

(Commands in red may get errors but its fine)

Or you could just use the DroidMod Updater to flash the latest recovery image and then just not install the DroidMod ROM if you don't want it?

i was missing a space after flash_image

now, i have downloaded the smoked glass latest rom, but the guide says save it as *.rom.tgz

well i cannot save a file that starts with an asterisk.

ideas?

Don't type the asterisk, replace the asterisk with whatever your rom name is. Example: SmokedGlass1.2 -> SmokedGlass1.2.rom.tgz
