I went for simplicity... well I went for simplicity after spending half a day making a wooden dock for my phone (which by the way ended up horribly). Took all of 2 minutes to make out of an old wire hanger and it may show but it's functional. Hope it helps someone.
Instead of making it so that usb cable is locked into it like the cardboard one. I instead just make it so you can plug in your cable then set it on the dock.
I've been holding out on posting this, but this is a droid dock I built with built-in usb power/data connector, and magnetic dock activation for my 81' Porsche 911. I can post some construction photo's if anybody wants them. The Droid slides down onto the usb jack and the dock is plugged into a usb cable routed behind the dash from the stereo. The stereo does pretty good with hot switching between calls mp3, and navigation w/bluetooth. At least I don't get hands free tickets, but the speeders, well... too bad the droid won't do radar detector yet.

Here is my really ghetto pocketable Droid doc (made from two business cards). Not the most stable, but OK for viewing videos or just using as a desk clock. Can't really do much on the screen without it falling over.
I made the cardboard version for my office. I get board at work and watch videos on my DroidX. I did mod it a bit. I cut a hole in the back were the speaker is and covered the back side creating a sound chamber. The sound is slightly amplified and forced out the front bottom of the stand. Works pretty good.
